The Composers
Dimitry Borisovich Kabalevsky
Kabalevsky studied in Moscow with Miaskovsky.
He was appointed professor of composition at the Moscow Conservatoire in 1932 and was greatly involved with the Soviet governments cultural policy, occupying important positions in the Union of Soviet Composers.
Kabalevsky was prolific in all fields on composition, although he is best known in Russia for his songs and hymns of patriotism, his chamber music and operas.
His orchestral music has won greater favour abroad than his dramatic and vocal compositions.
