Notes
Johann Strauss II's waltz An der Schönen blauen Donau (on the Beautiful Blue Danube) is one of the most famous works in the musical canon. Arranged and transcribed for endless combinations of instruments, it receives a wonderful virtuosic treatment in Schulz-Evler's Arabesques on Themes from The Blue Danube. A once legendary piece of pianistic brilliance, the Arabesques encapsulate a golden era of piano playing; the introduction with its colourful and glossy sheen of spinning arpeggios is utterly mesmeric.
