The Composers
Josef Strauss
Son of Johann Strauss I, Josef continued in the family tradition of writing, playing and conducting light music. He accompanied his more famous brother, Johann Strauss II, on his tours, and occasionally deputised for him as conductor. As well as authoring compositions, many of which were the equal of those of his other family members, Josef was a keen poet, painter and inventor.Notes
Josef Strauss, the introverted younger brother of JohannI Strauss II, wrote many waltzes and polkas, often sharing the conducting of the Strauss orchestra. The Feuerfest polka was written in 1869 and written to commemorate a Viennese manufacturer's 20,000th 'fireproof' safe!
