Sir Colin Davis
Principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, musical director at Sadler's Wells Opera and the Royal Opera House, and guest conductor for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dresden Staatskapelle: Sir Colin Davis boasts an impressive CV. Like many conductors, his contribution to the development of music in the 20th century has been enormous.
Sir Davis' relationship with the London Symphony Orchestra has been long and prestigious. In 1964 he led their first world tour and went on to lead a series of music from Sibelius, Berlioz, Bruckner, Mozart, Elgar, Beethoven and Brahms. He is, amongst other composers, associated with Sibelius, conducting a cycle of music by the composer in 1992 that became the stuff of legend.
This wonderful recording features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Sir Colin Davis at the helm performing Sibelius' second symphony and his Finlandia - the conductors love for the music shines through.
