This is some unusual music for me - but probably a way of life to those who sang it. The Italian music I know is of the great masters, but this is probably what they listened to when they were growing up. Who knows, perhaps there were some melodies like this that ended up in Verdi and Monteverdi. Anyone out there recognise these melodies being re-used?
