This piece sounds best when the long violin notes are really extended, with an etherial and pure sound - thin, but clear and pure like an effortless and slow breath. This performance does not have enough repose, is not calm and sedate enough. He is overinterpreting the simplicity of the line. Performers of a more contemporary training would understand this, and make it less complicated.
