Music at the Movies

Classical Academy | Performers | On This Day...

In June 1905 the first movie theatre opened in the USA. It set up the structure that would sweep the nation - the five-cent nickelodeon movie. Of course, things started out wiht silent movies accompanied by music that expressed the emotions of the characters. Then, after the release of The Jazz Singer in 1927, the era of the "talkies" brought in a new era where movie music became increasingly complex in its integration with the film itself.

With over 100 years of music filling movie theatres to explore, we have a wonderful selection of hits, from classical music integrated into modern stories to music especially composed and performed for certain films.
