Music for Mid-July

Classical Academy

In the middle of July, we look back at the premier of Johannes Brahms' Piano Quintet in F-minor and the publishing of Claudio Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine

These two composers produced an abundance of beautiful music. This includes delightful Madrigals by Monteverdi, which make for perfect music for a summer day. Piano Sonatas and Violin Concertos constitute key genres in which Brahms composed: try this recording of his concertos performed by the talented and thought-provoking violinist Isabelle Faust. If you're in the mood for more chamber music - ideal for the summer months - then we recommend these pieces by Joseph Haydn and Heinrich Ernst.
