The Composers

Johann Ludwig Krebs

Born in Buttelstadt, Germany, Johann Ludwig Krebs was taught organ by his father before being sent to the Thomasschule in Leipzig. There he was taught by J.S. Bach, assisting him at the harpsichord at his Collegium Musicum. Thus eminently qualified, he took posts at Zeitz, Zwickau and Altenburg, playing organ and composing in many of the same genres his teacher wrote in; flute and clavier sonatas, preludes and suites for keyboard, even a fugue for organ on the notes B-A-C-H.
