"I was attempting to tell a contrasting story", Salvador Brotons recalls of his Two Suggestions. "One through long, narrative and melancholic legato gestures [Balada], and the other through persistent rhythmic drive [Toccata]." The Suggestions, written in 1979, are stark, bold and incisive in their narratives. From the most gentle tamboura to the most percussive rasgueado, these are strikingly beautiful pieces which use the guitar's unique resources to the exacting effect of the musical plot.
