Notes
Hans Christian Lumbye's wonderfully exuberant Champagnegalop dates from 1845 and is a worthy rival to the best of Austrian popular dances, as exemplified by Lanner and the Strauss family. Utilising the full resources of a large percussion section, including the customary popping champagne cork, this attractive galop is a frequent favourite at Vienna's New Year's Day concert.
