The Flash player provides the interface through which users can see what music is playing and use familiar playing controls such as previous, next, stop and pause. It also provides information about artists and other options such as the ability to save the track.
Why do we use Macromedia Flash
We chose to use the Flash player as the interface because it provides the best user experience and it is installed by default with most modern, internet enabled browsers (some 98%). In addition, for Apple Macs and Netscape users, the Flash player can be used to playback music as well as provide the interface, avoiding the need for those users to install Windows Media Player, which is hard to maintain on these systems.
- The Flash player is installed as a lightweight browser plug-in of around 800kb and can be installed by visiting the following URL: http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer
Flash player comes in different version to support each individual platform and browsers. Each browser that needs to use the service will need its own Flash plug-in, which is detected automatically and installed by visiting the above URL.
