Cookies

Classical World  uses cookies to provide advanced functionality such as context sensitive linking, automatic logging and the shopping cart. Cookies for the Classical World service domains need to be allowed in the user's browser. Some institutions disallow cookies by default. In these cases you will need to manually enable cookies on each computer accessing the service.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive.

  • A cookie cannot read data off your hard disk nor read cookie files created by other sites.
  • Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information

Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to prevent that. If you set your browser to reject cookies, then certain aspects of our site will not work for you.  For instance, most websites use cookies to provide additional navigation features and to add items to a shopping basket.

If you have experience difficulties using the site, check your browser is allowing cookies. You can either "enable all cookies", or, in Internet Explorer, you can add this site to your list of "trusted sites".

How to enable cookies for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x

  • Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  • Go to "Privacy" (tabs).
  • Adjust preset settings so that cookies are enabled or click on "Advanced" to customize the settings.
  • Click "OK" for each window.
  • Click Refresh on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

How to enable cookies for Netscape 6.x

  • Select "Preferences" on the Edit menu.
  • Click on the arrow next to "Advanced" in the left hand menu and click "Cookies".
  • Select "Enable all cookies" or "Enable cookies" for the originating website only.
  • Click "OK".
  • Click Reload on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

How to enable cookies for Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x

  • Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  • Click on the "Security" tab.
  • Click "Custom Level" button.
  • Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
  • Set "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" to "Enable".
  • Set "Allow per-session cookies" to "Enable".
  • Click "OK".
  • Click Refresh on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

How to enable cookies for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x

  • Select "Internet Options" from the View menu.
  • Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  • Scroll down to find "Cookies" within the "Security" section.
  • Select "Always accept cookies".
  • Click "OK".
  • Click Refresh on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

How to enable cookies for Netscape Communicator 4.x

  • Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
  • Find the "Cookies" section in the "Advanced" category.
  • Select "Accept all cookies" (or "Enable all cookies").
  • Click "OK".
  • Click Reload on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

Adding this site to your "Trusted Sites"

Internet Explorer uses "security zones." Each site assigned to a zone has the same security restrictions. You need to decide what zone this site will be in, and what cookies sites in that zone will accept.

Internet Explorer 6.x

  • Select "Internet Options" form the tools menu.
  • Choose the "Privacy" tab.
  • Select "edit" from the "web sites" section.
  • Enter the address, e.g. http://www.classical.com, and click "enable"
  • Click "OK", bottom right, and then "OK" again on next two windows to close the popup.
  • Click Refresh on the browser menu when you return to the webpage.

1. Selecting the Zone

  • Click "Tools" on the menu bar, and then "Internet Options". Click the "Security" tab. You'll see the four zones: "Internet", "Local intranet", "Trusted sites" and "Restricted sites". Classical World is in the "Internet zone" by default
  • Select "Trusted sites" and click the "Sites" button
  • Make sure the checkbox in the lower part of the window is off
  • Enter the URL (e.g. http://www.classical.com) in the text box and click the "Add" button

2. Enabling Cookies

  • In the "Trusted sites" zone, click the "Custom level" button.
  • Scroll down to the Cookies section.
  • Enable the "per-session" cookies and "accept all cookies". Click "OK" and then "OK" again to save your changes. Shut down your browser (clicking the in the upper right is the easiest thing to do) and restart it.
