- Habanera
- A Cuban dance in 2/4 time and characterised by strong syncopation
- Harmonic Series
- The set of notes naturally produced by a vibrating string or column of air which determines the different sounds of different instruments, and allows players of brass instruments to achieve several different notes without operating valves on their instruments
- Harmony
- The way in which notes can be played together to produce significantly musical sounds, including the way different chords sound and go together, and the way different musical keys and notes relate to each other
- Head Voice
- See 'Falsetto'
- Homophony
- From the Greek for 'same-sounding', Homophony occurs where parts or voices move together, for example a melody with accompanying chords. This is the opposite of Polyphony
- Hornpipe
- A lively English dance in triple time, taking its name from the instrument which originally accompanied it. Later was used in 4/4 time, and is often associated with sailors
- Humoresque
- The French name for a rather capricious style of instrumental composition
- Hymn
- A song of worship sung by the congregation in a Church, with specially written words
