Sigismond Thalberg was a virtuoso pianist of the highest order and rival of Liszt.

Thalberg's principal compositions are a series of operatic fantasias for piano, works that transform popular opera such as Don Giovanni ( W.A. Mozart) or The Barber of Seville (Rossini) into piano works of incredible brilliance.
