Sergei Mikhailovich Liapunov

Russian pianist and composer who studied composition under Tchaikovsky and Taneyev at the Moscow Conservatoire.

Later he moved to St. Petersburg where he came under the direct influence of Balakirev, the dictatorial leader of the Russian Mighty Handful.

Lyapunov’s compositions owe much to his familiarity with the traditional Russian folk songs.
