Widely recognised as one of the finest interpreters of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann, Michael Roll has played all over the world and has worked with conductors as eminent as Boulez, Giulini, Leinsdorf, and Sanderling.
Born in England to Viennese parents, Michael Roll studied with Fanny Waterman from the age of six, making his debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at the age of just ten and, at seventeen, won the first Leeds International Piano Competition.
He appears regularly with the major orchestras of the United Kingdom and has toured all over the world, appearing at major festivals (including the prestigious Klavier-Festival Ruhr in Germany and the BBC Proms). In addition, Michael gives recitals in London, Edinburgh, New York, Berlin and Milan.
Recent seasons have seen Michael give a series of Beethoven concerto performances in various European centres, tours of Australia and New Zealand, and his debut with the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna Symphony. His discography includes a cycle of Beethoven concerto recordings with the RPO under Howard Shelley that received rave reviews in the musical press.
