José Pablo Moncayo García

José Pablo Moncayo García was born in Guadalajara in 1912 and died in Mexico City in 1958. He studied composition with Chávez and rose from playing jazz piano in local cabarets to taking up conductorship of Mexico's National Symphony Orchestra. He was one of the Group of Four, a small band of composers dedicated to the promotion of modern Mexican music. In addition to the celebrated Huapango, he composed the opera La mulata de Córdoba, the symphonic dance Hueyapán, and various piano pieces and choruses. Show more
