Horatio (William) Parker
American Born 15 Sep 1863 Died 18 Dec 1919Lucy Carolan was born and brought up in Edinburgh, Scotland, and studied music at Edinburgh University where she encountered the famous Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments. A scholarship to study harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam followed, and she has since been in great demand as both a solo and continuo player.
She has worked regularly with L'École d'Orphée, the Taverner Players and the London Baroque Players and her solo repertoire ranges from the Dublin Virginal Manuscript to works by Sir Michael Tippett. Nicholas Kenyon wrote in The Times of her 1984 contribution to Monteverdi's Orfeo that it was "some of the most responsive continuo playing I have ever heard". Since 1991, Lucy has taught Harpsichord at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
