Ferdinando Carulli

Italian Born 20 Feb 1770 Died 17 Feb 1841

Originally a cellist, Carulli was probably the first great guitar virtuoso.

He wrote the treatise, Harmony Applied to the Guitar, as well as many study pieces.

After several foreign tours he settled in Paris, then perhaps the capital of musical knowledge, where he acquired a large following as a teacher of the guitar.
