Come Fly With Da Vinci

Classical Academy | On This Day...

The Golden Age of human existence, the Renaissance, gave us more than one extraorindary man - but perhaps none more so than Leonardo da Vinci. Painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, writer - you name it, he did it. A real and true genius, Da Vinci conceptualised a helicopter, a tanker, solar power and a calculator centuries before any were achieved.

One thing Da Vinci strove to do but never succeeded was to fly. Amongst his notes are designs for flying machines, one in particular drawn in1488 and tested in January a few years later. Interstingly, for a documentary in 2003 some of his machines were built and tested according to the original designs - and some of them even worked!

In honour of Leonardo the legend we invite you to come fly with Da Vinci with this group of beautiful recordings all with an air-borne theme...
